The Latest in Insulin Pump Innovations

An all-in-one pump and CGM could be coming soon and I tested out the Omnipod 5 for three months.

Today’s Diabetech Roundup is jam-packed with tech news and content updates! This newsletter drops every-other Wednesday and updates you on the latest in diabetes tech, news and innovations. This week I gett into a 15-day Dexcom G7, my first three months using Omnipod 5 and a first-look at two all-in-one insulin pump & CGM prototypes. Time to get pumped!

EXCLUSIVE LOOK: Combined CGM and insulin pump by PharmaSens

PharmaSens is revolutionizing diabetes management with the first all-in-one insulin pump and CGM system. I got to see two prototypes of future iterations of this device and it’s got me excited for what’s in store. These designs could set the precedent for future innovations from other companies like combined infusion sets, larger insulin capacity and even longer lasting devices.  Get an inside look at these prototypes of the Niia and what’s next for PharmaSens in my latest blog post.

This Niia prototype features two components; a CGM sensor and a steel cannula for insulin delivery (left to right).

I used Omnipod 5 for three months, after three years of DIY

I decided to take a break from my DIY insulin management to try the Omnipod 5 system powered by the all-new iPhone app. After using Omnipod for three years with open-source apps, I was eager to see how the FDA-cleared system compared. Inside my latest article, I breakdown everything I learned about this system – from navigating workouts, comparing customization abilities and alerts and adjusting to a “new normal” of glucose targets.  To hear more about my experience, the pros and cons of Omnipod 5, and how it stacks up to DIY systems, check out the full article.

My experience wearing the Omnipod 5

I decided to put my DIY insulin management on hold to try out Omnipod 5.

I plan to test out the Tandem Mobi next – the world’s smallest, durable automated insulin delivery system. Stay tuned for that!

In the News: Dexcom submits 15-day sensor for FDA clearance

Big news from Dexcom – they've just submitted a 15-day version of the Dexcom G7 for FDA clearance. The new sensor is expected to have the same adhesive as the Dexcom Stelo, which is already approved for a 15-day wear. Will this mean lower costs for those paying out of pocket? And how will it impact traveling with fewer sensor changes? Check out my full TikTok video for all the details, and let me know what you think in the comments over there!

SugarPixel: My favorite tech this week

SugarPixel is a sleek and customizable device that displays your CGM readings in real-time. With color-coded readings—red for very low, yellow for low, green for in-range, and purple or pink for high—it's easy to track your glucose levels at a glance. You can set optional alerts with quiet modes, and it comes with an included vibrating puck, perfect for those with hearing impairments.

The smartphone app lets you adjust display screens, ranges, brightness and nighttime mode, and you can even track two people's readings simultaneously! Check it out through my affiliate link to learn more and grab one yourself!
